Pumporgan is a formation that had it's start in 2011 as a result of a composition commission of the North Sea Jazz festival given to Dirk Bruinsma, composer and initiator of the band. The music of the band became a dynamic mix of grooves inspired by the early days of jazz and rock with adventurous musical architecture coming from contemporary music and avant-garde. And this music has to be performed with a band that can be tight as an old school dance-band but at the same time wild as a free jazz ensemble and eerie as the weirdest swamp rock.

Originally a five piece band playing the concoctions of Dirk Bruinsma (Blast, Otolithen, Brown vs Brown), now the line up is reduced to a duo with Bruinsma on bass/vocals and Nout Ingen Housz, drums and vocals. We use samples for additional parts where the Hammond organ, guitar and barisax had their place in the scope. The compact version of the once rather large sound is more pointy and tight. ... more
